Dr. Vazquez has continuously practiced general surgery in the Chicago area for 40 years and for the past 38 years at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Vazquez is a private practice general surgeon and geographical full-time faculty member (Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery) at the Feinberg School of Medicine of Northwestern University. He attended medical school at the University of Illinois from 1965 to 1969 and completed his general surgical residency in 1974 at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Vazquez attended the University of Illinois graduate school in bioengineering and physiology while he attended medical school and his residency program. The American Board of Surgery granted him certification in April 1975 and the American College of Surgeons granted him fellowship in 1976.

He co-founded the Nutritional Support service at NMH and co-directed the service from 1978 through 1985. He has contributed service to several committees of SAGES (Society of Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons) and he is an active member of the SLS (Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons). Recent Sages committee assignments at Sages include Safety, Quality, and Outcomes, and The Safe Cholecystectomy Task Force.
Currently the majority of his clinical practice is devoted to phlebology and endovenous treatment of chronic venous insufficiency. He actively participates in the American College of Phlebology as a Chair of the distance learning task force. He earned the credential of RVT (registered vascular technologist), and RPVI (registered physician vascular interpretation) ARDMS in early 2009.The American Venous Forum elected him to membership in 2004.
Dr. Vazquez served as Chief Medical Officer of the Illinois State Police from 1988 to June 2002. During this time, he acted as the professional medical and surgical advocate for all state troopers, code personnel, and their families for all serious injuries and illnesses referred to his unit.
